Barbara Schultz

Owner and Operator of Little Buttes Publishing Co.  Quality Aviation History Books

Aviation History Books Author

Barbara Schultz writes aviation history books for Little Buttes Publishing.  Her passion for research enhances her projects.  As a result, images and important facts fill her history books. Clearly, first person interviews of pioneer aviators are essential.  They allow ‘the old-timers’ to reflect on their inspiring careers.

Barbara’s career as an aviation historian began following a trip to South America.  Looking for a new challenge, she signed up for flying lessons.  Nearby Fox Field in Lancaster, California served her well.  Coincidently, Pancho Barnes also wanted a new challenge after a trip to Latin America.  She earned her wings at Ross Balloon Field.

A New Pilot

Barbara received her pilot license after a final check ride with Bill Barnes.   She also met her future husband Phil.  The two shared hangars for their aircraft.  Barbara purchased a 1950 Cessna 140A.  Phil owned a 1931 Stinson Jr.   Without a doubt, they both enjoyed flying.  The two eventually established their own airport.

A First Aviation History Book

Barbara received Bill and Pancho Barnes’ memorabilia following Bill’s death in a 1980 plane crash.  This coincided with the release of The Pancho Barnes Story. It starred Valerie Bertinelli.  It should be noted that the film took many liberties portraying Pancho.  As a result, Barbara began her first aviation history book.  The time frame allowed her to interview many of Pancho’s close friends.   There would be six more books and many articles for the American Aviation Historical Society Journal.

An Aviation Historian

Because of her substantial knowledge about aviation history, Barbara consults with others on their projects.  In addition, she participates in documentaries.  They include Breaking Through the Clouds, the Happy Bottom Riding Club, and the Katherine Cheung Story.

Other Aviation Titles

Barbara is an Amelia Earhart Scholar awarded by the Ninety-Nines. The group is an international organization of women pilots.   Additionally, she served as a Trustee for the Ninety-Nines Museum of Women Pilots.  Currently, she acts as archivist/curator for the Golden Age Flight Museum and Director at Large for the Antelope Valley Rural Museum.  Nonetheless, there are always aviation history books in the queue waiting to be written!

Barbara enjoys sharing her aviation history knowledge.  For this reason, she gives aviation history presentations throughout the United States. Most relate to her research.  Others are requested custom presentations.  To contact her, use the form on her contact page
