In 1935, she joined the Ninety-Nines. She can be seen in the photo wearing her jacket with the organization's logo on the front. Kathryn entered several races including the 1936 Chatterton Air Race; one year later, she planned to travel to China and organize a flight school to train pilots to fight the Japanese. This endeavor ended abruptly when a good friend suffered fatal injuries after crashing her airplane. Research indicated that, with the insistence of her father, she gave up flying.
I was privilege to meet Kathryn a year or so before her death in 2003.
